Studio Ocra UWS interior design pre-war apartment renovation living room

The owners of this apartment reached out to us, the space was outdated, and they were looking for something more functional and refreshed, a home that could cocoon them during their visits to the city. This Manhattan pied-à-terre was envisioned as a place of calm and clarity amid the chaotic rhythms of New York City. Designed as a complete gut renovation, the project intentionally maximized every inch of space, blending timeless materials with a soft, minimal palette.

Throughout the apartment, bespoke millwork anchors the interior design, custom built-ins, concealed storage, and integrated furniture allow the space to remain open and functional without sacrificing elegance. A curated mix of soft, neutral materials, warm tones, oak, and veined marble, adds richness and texture, while natural light moves fluidly across surfaces, enhancing the home’s tactile and welcoming quality. Every detail was carefully considered, balancing minimal design with the apartment’s more decorative, historical heritage.

While the renovation introduced a clean, contemporary language, it also preserved elements of the apartment’s original architectural character. Restored moldings and trims coexist harmoniously with the new interventions, resulting in a balanced, high-end New York City interior that honors the past while embracing the present. The outcome is a thoughtful, quiet-luxury residence—tailored, timeless, and deeply personal.
