BEDFORD-STUYVESANT DUPLEX
Brooklyn, New York

When a young couple settled into their Brooklyn duplex in Bed-Stuy, they were looking for minimal yet welcoming solutions that would adapt the space to their needs. With a baby on the way and a growing need for thoughtful storage and flexible space, they asked for something subtle but transformative. We responded with a gut renovation that, through an appreciation for timeless design, made the home more adaptable while enhancing its airy, light-filled atmosphere.
The project began not with bold gestures, but with quiet clarity, studying how light moved through the space and how each corner could serve a purpose without feeling overworked. The existing layout offered potential but lacked coherence. We reorganized it entirely, creating rooms that breathe, zones that shift throughout the day, and storage that disappears into the architecture. The design supports living that is both deliberate and effortless.

Bespoke millwork was designed to shape and define the space. In the living area, a custom bookshelf and built-in bench were detailed to serve as both a unifier and a quiet divider. This thoughtful element allows the room to transform into a guest space when needed, without sacrificing openness. Throughout the duplex, bespoke details and tailored built-ins were designed to maximize space and functionality.

THIS GUT RENOVATION BLENDS SOFT MINIMALIST, BESPOKE MILLWORK, AND TIMELESS MATERIALS TO CREATE A WARM, AIRY HOME WITH ENDURING SIMPLICITY.

Materiality carries the emotional weight. Soft, neutral wood tones and warm light colors are paired with three-dimensional surfaces that cast shifting light and shadow throughout the day. The palette is warm yet airy, textured yet minimal. These materials ground the space, creating a sense of calm and continuity from room to room.
This residence renovation reflects our belief that functionality and comfort can exist in harmony with beauty. This New York City interior offers the luxury of quiet and the timeless elegance of design that’s intentional, balanced, and deeply personal.
